The series originally premiered in the USA in March 1989. Since then it has followed dozens of domestic law enforcement agencies in over 150 different cities; from Alaska to Florida as well as Hong Kong, London, and Central and South America. It was the first American television program given permission to film the Moscow and Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) police departments in the former Soviet Union.
